PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. — International Process Plants (IPP), the world’s largest seller of used process plants, systems and equipment, today announced the availability of a fully integrated FDA-, EMA-, and MHRA-approved active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility in Grimsby, United Kingdom.
The 190-acre pharmaceutical plant includes three production buildings, support infrastructure, including over 6,000m2 of QA/QC/R&D labs, utilities and warehousing. The Grimsby area is home to a talented and dedicated workforce, many hundreds of whom are former employees of the site under prior big pharma ownership. The facility manufactured more than a dozen APIs, including several for blockbuster cardiac treatments and modern targeted therapies, with no critical findings in any inspections throughout the past 20 years.
“This is one of the most compelling pharmaceutical manufacturing opportunities in the UK and all of Europe,” said Ron Gale, President of International Process Plants. “Few facilities come to market with this combination of regulatory pedigree, proven output and expansion potential. It is ideal for CDMOs, pharmaceutical manufacturers looking to add immediate API capacity in their supply chains to serve the EU, US, and UK markets as companies seek to regionalize production.”
The property is offered for sale or lease, in part or in whole.
“Knowing this facility has over 1,000m3 total of reactor capacity is quite large, we are flexible in selling or even leasing each of the production buildings separately to make it manageable for small CDMOs to move into,” added Ross Gale, Vice President of the IPP Group.
The site’s three production buildings provide high-volume and multipurpose synthesis capability, with reactors ranging from 2.5 to 16 cubic meters in stainless steels, glass lined and hastelloy. The facility includes full on-site utilities, labs, solvent recycling, nitrogen, robust electric and natural gas infrastructure, multiple tank farms freshwater abstraction, offices, warehouses and wastewater treatment, enabling rapid validation and scale-up. Complementing the reactors are centrifuges, vacuum dryers, vacuum filter dryers and condensers, as well as distillation and vacuum equipment.
“With the global pharmaceutical supply chain being under constant pressure in recent years to regionalize production and minimize capital costs and timelines, this site offers something rare: speed, certainty and flexibility,” Ross Gale said. “Companies can be operational in months. That’s an enormous advantage in time and cost savings compared to a greenfield build.”
