Steam boilers generate steam or hot water by heating water through combustion or electric elements—used for process heating, power generation, sanitation, and HVAC support. Hot oil boilers heat thermal oil for high-temperature, closed-loop systems and deliver process temperatures above the practical limits of steam without the high pressures required for equivalent steam operation. Hot oil boilers in IPP's inventory operate at temperatures up to 350°C (662°F).

Design capacities in IPP's boiler inventory range from 46.5 kg/h (102.5 lb/h) for small electric steam units up to 40,350 kg/h (89,000 lb/h) for large industrial water tube steam boilers. Fuel types in current inventory include natural gas, diesel, heavy fuel oil, gas oil, and electric. Multi-fuel boilers (natural gas plus diesel, or natural gas plus heavy fuel oil) are also available. Burner manufacturers include Cleaver Brooks, Riello, Saacke, Hamworthy Combustion, Bosch, Babcock Wanson, and others.
