Ross Gale explained how IPP is well positioned to help buyers or sellers with a chemical plant transaction.

International Process Plants (IPP) is navigating significant shifts in the second-hand chemical plant market, driven by manufacturers relocating production for logistical and supply security reasons.

Ross Gale, IPP’s vice president and director of acquisitions and consultancy, notes in a new interview with Chemical Processing that maintaining operational centers in the U.S., U.K., and Germany has helped the company adapt to these changes.

A notable example is IPP’s deal with BASF to market chemical production facilities from in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The flagship site included multiple complete process units, which IPP has made available for resale and relocation to customers worldwide. This project underscores IPP’s expertise in transforming idled assets into operational solutions.

“The idea is to offer top-end equipment, with features such as internal and external polishing that an industrial chemical manufacturer wouldn’t need but at a price that is highly competitive with the standard of equipment they would normally order,” Gale told Chemical Engineering.

The Chemical Engineering piece also focused on IPP’s acquisition from Novartis of an 170-acre API manufacturing facility in Grimsby, UK.

Finding ideal chemical plant solutions

Small and mid-sized companies will choose used process plants for the significant reduction in lead times, Gale explained. Customers can save up to 70% on entire plants and cut delivery times by 90% versus new equipment, he said. IPP’s comprehensive offerings, including complete plant relocations and individual equipment sales, position the company as a global leader in the market.

“Those companies have the forward vision and flexibility needed to see that the perceived risk of used assets is outweighed by the benefit of shorter return on investment,” Gale said. “This is how you achieve more for less in a significant way.”
